PTA NOMINATING COMMITTEE
2025
2025
"A PTA can be no more effective than its leadership. The Nominating Committee is a special committee
that holds the key to a successful PTA. The committee is responsible for presenting the best qualified
nominees for office."
NOMINATE POTENTIAL BOARD MEMBERS BY MARCH 7!
The PTA’s future is determined by the leadership qualities and people skills of the individuals selected by the Nominating Committee. Are you interested in serving on or nominating someone for the 2025-2026 school year's Executive Board?
What is the PTA Nominating Committee?
The Committee is a nominated group of eligible PTA members, chosen by majority, committed to reviewing PTA Officer (Executive Board) nominations for the 2025-2026 school year.
***Signing up for the Committee does not guarantee you a Committee position – Nominating Committee members were voted on during the General Membership Meeting, Wednesday, February 5 at 6PM CST.***
How does the PTA ensure fairness?
The president does not serve as a member or appoint the Committee.
Nominations are open to all eligible members of North Elementary PTA. We strive to nominate a Committee that represents the social, geographic, and ethnic makeup of the association.
No one automatically serves as a Committee member or alternate because of their position or title. The school principal does not serve on the Committee unless elected to do so.
We follow strict bylaws. The members always nominate and elect the Committee members and alternates. Appointment – by anyone – is not an option.
We provide all members, with the exception of the president, an opportunity to nominate or to be nominated for the Committee.
All Committee members sign a North Elementary PTA Nominating Committee Confidentiality Agreement. The committee members treat all discussions of the committee as strictly confidential, and won't reveal any names under consideration until the committee report is released according to established procedures.
How is the Committee structured?
The Committee is comprised of three eligible PTA members, nominated by majority, and confirmed through a general membership meeting vote. Immediately following the Special Online General Membership Meeting (02/05/2025), the three nominees meet, and select a Committee Chair.
What are the responsibilities of a Nominating Committee member?
Solicit suggestions for nominees from the membership.
Select one nominee for each officer (Executive Board) position, and be prepared to state qualifications of nominees.
Give careful consideration to qualifications of candidates.
Contact prospective candidates during Committee meetings.
Allow time for a candidate to consider the position before asking for his or her decision.
Consider the best candidate for each position. Individuals currently serving in a position are not given preference and are not automatically allowed to repeat in that position.
Ask a Committee member who is being considered for a position to leave the room during the discussion regarding his or her qualifications. That Committee member can be present for the discussion of other candidates for that office and may vote.
Make Committee decisions by ballot and majority vote.
Treat all candidates in a fair and consistent manner.
Reconvene the Committee if a slated candidate withdraws between the publicizing of the Committee report and the election meeting.
So, you have a Committee. Now what?
Once our Committee is formed, North Elementary PTA can begin the process of soliciting interest and open nominations for the 2025-2026 PTA Executive Board. You will have the opportunity to nominate anyone for the following officer positions:
President • VP1 Membership • VP2 Communications • VP3 Volunteers • VP4 Fundraising • Treasurer
Secretary
Our Nominating Committee prepares a written report that is signed by all members of the Committee, and will publicize the report via regular publicity channels at least seven days before the election meeting. They may also present the report to the current executive board for information only. The committee chair may present the report to the current PTA president, as a courtesy, prior to the executive board.
What happens to the Committee after the Election?
The Nominating Committee is dissolved once the report is read.
